eCipher Overview
eCipher™ is the easiest way to protect your email communications. You can securely exchange confidential email with your attorney, doctor, accountant, business partners, employees, customers, and family members — just about anyone. Strong encryption and digital signatures ensure safe transit, integrity, and authenticity of your email communications. In addition, unlike many encryption programs, eCipher allows you to control what happens to your message once it's been received.*
eCipher works with most email programs, including Microsoft Outlook™, Thunderbird™ or Eudora™. Microsoft Outlook users have the additional benefit of the eCipher add-in. Sending encrypted email is as easy as clicking the “Send Secure” button. If you prefer, eCipher can send secure email directly through web-based email programs like Gmail, AOL, Yahoo! Mail Plus, Comcast, and many others!**

Technical Information
eCipher is email security software that prevents unintended access and misuse. With eCipher you can establish viewing, copying, printing, saving, and forwarding permissions that remain with your email throughout its life cycle. eCipher also secures data on your computer if your machine is ever misplaced or stolen.

Using eCipher is easy
Here are few examples to get you started sending and receiving secure email messages and attachments. Click the "Show Me How" button to view a Flash video. You need Adobe's Flash Player installed.

A general introduction to the product.
 How Do I Open a .safe file?
Using your email program, open the message sent to you that contains the .safe file. Either double-click the .safe icon  or drag the icon onto the View File icon on the eCipher toolbar. Click Reply to respond securely.
How Do I Create a Secure Email?
Click the Compose icon. Compose as you would any other email and type your secure message. Click the Attach button to find and attach files or click the attachments tab and drag files onto the tab.
How Do I Add a Contact?
Click the Contacts icon, then click the Add Contact icon at the top of the contacts pane (green plus). Fill out all contact information. The only required field is the email address. Drag an image file onto the image area if you wish to use it as an avatar. Click the Save button.
How Do I Use Drag and Drop Functionality?
To open a safe file, drag the .safe icon from an email message on to the View File button on the desktop toolbar. Or drag a saved .safe file from its location on to the View File button. To add a V-card (.vcf) to your contacts, drag the V-card on to the Contacts button on the toolbar. When someone sends you a secure eCipher message, one has the option of including the v-card along with the message. This v-card can also be saved out of the message using drag and drop. Finally, to add an attachment to a secure message, drag the file onto the compose window.
